Siding

What Should a Siding Estimate Include?

A siding proposal that lists only square footage and color leaves too much unanswered. The real project includes removal or preparation, wall condition, water management, trim, penetrations, accessories, cleanup, and warranty.

Specify removal or cover-over

Know whether old siding is removed. If it stays, ask how the contractor verifies the wall condition and creates a suitable surface.

Name the weather-resistive layer

The proposal should identify housewrap or another weather barrier, flashing details, tapes where used, and how openings and penetrations are treated.

List trim and accessories

Corners, starter, window trim, door trim, light blocks, faucet blocks, vents, soffit, fascia, shutters, and utility penetrations add labor.

Define sheathing repairs

Ask for unit prices or a written change-order process if damaged sheathing or trim is uncovered.

Bring this checklist to the estimate
